Birding tours in Panama.

Panama (77000 km2), one of the most popular birding destinations in Latin America, like Costa Rica offers a great diversity of habitats (from tropical rain forest to high altitude 'paramo').Due to its geographic location, this country is at the union of Central and South America, and thus contains the distribution limits of many different species.

82 bird families occur in Panama with a total list of more than 940 bird species.

There are three major regions to visit during your birdwatching vacations:

TO THE WEST: is the mountainous zone of the Chiriqui (Boquete and Baru volcano). Reaching altitudes of over 2000 m. This cloud forest region is the highest in Panama and home of many highland species: Resplendent Quetzal, Volcano Hummingbird, Prong-billed Barbet, Yellow-thighed Finch...

IN THE CENTER: is the Canal Zone (,Madden Lake, Summit Ponds, and the famous Pipeline Road). This region offers one of the most accessible tropical forests in the world due to its relative proximity to urban centers as a result of very good road network: Yellow-green Tyrannulet, Great Jacamar, Blue Cotinga, Lance-tailed Manakin...

The swampy area of the Tocumen Marsh near to the airport as well as the Metropolitan Park can also be very productive.
Rosy Thrush-Tanager...

The Darien is the wildest part of the country and is situated near the Colombian border. A superb zone of tropical forest within a 500 000 has park, which supports numerous regional endemics: Pirre Warbler,Green Manakin, Pirre Bush-Tanager... The Darien is only accessible by air from Panama City.
